I don't like the steaks, the ground meat, any of it except sausage and only because they mix it with 1/2 pork. We always get all of ours made into sausage. Tastes really good in my cajun red beans and rice!!!
I just don't like that gamey taste, I guess. John says the back strap is delicious though. I think I'll just stick to my sausage. LOL!!

CB - we found a guy that processes the ground meat and the sausage and it doesn't have that gamey taste at all! It's delicious.... [img]smile.gif[/img]
The backstrap is SO tender - I like to cut it up in small pieces and fry it - I call it popcorn backstrap......LOL! For whatever reason, it doesn't taste gamey either. I'm not at all fond of that wild taste ya get with some animals either.

Well, LL, I sure wish I could find someone that knows how to get that gamey taste out of it because I sure would like to try some without the gamey taste. If it wasn't for all of the pork that they put in the sausage, I wouldn't like it either.
I wish ya could too CB - I couldn't believe it was deer meat at first......has NO gamey taste to it at all. If I ever find out what he does to it, I'll let ya know. Funny thing is, the backstrap isn't mixed with anything else at all, and it's the same way.....no wild taste!?! Oh well, guess I already said that, but it still amazes me.......LOL! What does the ground meat taste like? Can you use it like you would ground beef?
When I was married to my ex, his step-dad killed a deer and gave us a bunch of steaks and ground meat. I had never cooked or tasted any of it before since my family has always gotten it all made into sausage. I thought you could cook it like you would ground beef. That evening I got in there and used the ground deer in hamburger helper!! LMAO!! That was the nastiest stuff I had ever tasted!!! LMAO!! We dumped it in the garbage and ordered pizza that night lol!!
